Would you like to explore the beauty of Latvian nature, richness of cultural heritage and support local farmers by trying out fresh food from the market? Then this hiking tour is for you! We have an exciting adventure in mind – a short exploration of the Riga Central Market, a 15 km long hiking tour in Sigulda and a picnic with local goods from the market.

First, you will go to the Riga Central Market, one of the largest markets in Europe, where you will have an opportunity to support Latvian farmers by buying fresh and tasty goods for your traditional lunch. Your guide will tell you about the different local products and the history of farming in Latvia. Next, you will take a train or a public bus to Sigulda and experience a sustainable way of traveling together with locals. Then you will hit the hiking trail and start your adventures in nature. Sigulda, once known as a summer resort, is famous for countless hiking trails that go up and down the banks of the Gauja River, romantic castles and manors, some of the most scenic landscapes in Latvia, impressive sandstone outcrops and the largest cave in the Baltics. On this hiking tour you will have a chance to see it all: lovely hiking paths through the woods, Emperor’s View, Devil’s Rock, Pikene Cliff, Krimulda Manor and Medieval Castle Ruins, Gutman’s Cave, Sigulda Medieval Castle Ruins and New Castle. During the picnic you will have an opportunity to try out what you have bought in the Riga Central Market and get to know the culture via your taste buds, at the same time supporting local farmers.

The hiking trail is well-established, but it requires rather good physical shape as it involves a lot of climbing up and down. The hike takes about six hours.

We will meet in front of the Origo Clock (Riga Central Station), visit the Riga Central Market and take a train or a public bus to Sigulda together.

Valdis took my wife and I in June 2024 from Riga to Kuldiga to see the Venta waterfalls. He told us a lot of... interesting information and gave me the inspiration to walk across the falls. I loved this tour and it was a highlight of my five days in Latvia. After spending a few days in Riga, I wanted to... explore more of the country and do some hiking. I considered renting a car for the day, but this tour provided just what I was looking for and so much more without the expense and hassle of a car rental and figuring out where to go. I was picked up and dropped off at my hotel and was able to enjoy the drive and an opportunity to see area surrounding Riga. Guide Valdis is a native Latvian and has a lot of experience hiking and much knowledge about the area and Latvia. The 15 K hike was rigorous, but doable. I found the park gorgeous and peaceful. We hiked through a forest, along the river, crossed bridges, explored caves and sandstone carvings and passed other notable places. Valdis made the hike very interesting with stories and he pointed out other activities available in this beautiful park and surrounding area. We stopped midday for a lovely picnic. Valdis also gave me information about other places to consider exploring in Latvia. A perfect day and I highly recommend this tour.read more

Baltic Nature Travel (BNT) did an outstanding job organizing our 17 day self-driving tour through Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania in Sept. 2025. Every detail was carefully planned and implemented - transportation from & to the airport and ferry; rental car delivered to our hotel; personal guides in the capital cities. The hotels were in excellent locations and often family owned, with great breakfasts included. The trip was designed so that we spent two nights at several places, which made pace of our trip just right. Two hotel had saunas and pools - a good respite. We had booked the Best of Ķemeri National Park tour. We had an amazing day together with Rolands. He picked us up right on schedule, and in the car his enthusiasm for the tour was immediately apparent! He told us all about the day, about what we could expect. The tour exceeded all our expectations, it was truly beautiful. Rolands was very informative, told us all about the area, the history, the nature. Not only did we enjoy the hiking and breathing in the fresh air, we also learned some very interesting things! Rolands was very friendly and talkative and we could ask all the questions we want, even about the Latvian language and traditions. He was also very helpfull, when my wife had trouble with some paths, he helped her. Even when she stubbed her toe, it didn't take any joy out of the day.

Excellent Experience – Highly Recommend We were a group of 15 people traveling from Gdansk (Poland) to Lithuania for a combination of a short visit to Vilnius and a four-day canoe trip. The agency did a fantastic job from start to finish. They gathered detailed information beforehand (including a teleconference), prepared an excellent offer that took all our wishes into account, and organized transportation with a comfortable minibus from our location to Lithuania. The tour itself went exceptionally well: we had a very good bus and a professional driver, excellent lodging throughout Lithuania, an outstanding guide, and great paddling opportunities.
