Up and down hills of the Switzerland of Latvia

This hiking tour brings you to the heart of the Gauja National Park and Sigulda town also known as “Little Switzerland of Latvia”. As its name speaks for itself, scenic views are guaranteed as well as going up steep bluffs, but don’t worry – the Gauja National Park has established good infrastructure for hikers to climb to the best viewing points.

ALONG THREE LAKES AND THE SEA

Hiking tour along Garezeri lakes and the Baltic Sea. Garezeri translates as Long Lakes, on this hike you will understand why. Garezeri consists of three lakes – the Northern Garezers, the Middle Garezers and the Southern Garezers, all of them surrounded by beautiful pine tree woods. A meditative and relaxing experience in nature, fresh pine tree air rich in phytoncides and with healing properties, beautiful scenery of curvy lakes, very diverse flora, power and peace of the sea and white sandy beach!

TWO RIVERS, SANDSTONE OUTCROPS AND THE BREATH OF HISTORY

Lovely paths through the woods, magnificent sandstone outcrops, evergreen rough horsetail jungle, almost mountain-hike feelings on the side of a steep bluff, a bit of bushwhacking, typical Latvian countryside landscapes, a breath of history in several abandoned sights, a Soviet atmosphere in a small village, wide-open scenery over the woods and the peace of the Gauja.

ROMANTIC TOWN, GREEN DUNE, BOG AND SULFUR WATER

Hike brings you to Ķemeri – a former sulfur water and mud resort town, once famous, it has fallen from its former glory, only architectural monuments are left to speak of the former splendour of the Ķemeri resort. Ķemeri is a very lovely town with romantic wooden architecture, perfect for all those who are artists at heart. Ķemeri is located within the Ķemeri National Park which is known for its great biological diversity, especially, bogs and swamps.

FISHERMEN’S SPIRIT, FINE SAND BEACH AND REED JUNGLE

What is waiting for you on this hiking tour? Coastal villages Ragaciems, Lapmežciems and Bigauņciems with fishermen’s houses and boats on the shore, a meditative walk through the forest, spectacular view from the observation tower, Lake Kaņieris surrounded by reeds, birds and fish.

THROUGH RELAXING RESORT AND ENERGIZING BLUE HILLS

What to expect from this hiking tour? Trails will lead you through the hills of the forest where you will be able to enjoy a breathtaking view of the Blue Hills overlooking Ogre. After a hike around the quarry where you will take in some unforgettable views, we’ll head back to the town to enjoy the coastal promenade and the bridges crossing the Ogre river.

BOG MYSTERY AND OLD TRAIN TRACKS

This hiking tour brings you to the Medema bog, a very exciting and beautiful place to discover. The bog is located in the outskirts of Riga, but does not feel like a part of the city anymore, allowing you to enjoy remoteness, tranquility and nature. All the houses and people stay behind, and you embark on a journey through the forest and bog.

BETWEEN PINE TREES, LAKE AND AIRPLANES

This hiking tour brings you through a hilly pine forest and along Lake Beberbeki, a former watermill lake, offering picturesque views and lovely paths. On the way you will see an old Soviet jet bomber, standing right in the middle of Skulte village. The most unforgettable highlight of this hike is the place where you can observe the Riga International Airport runway.

Lighthouse, ships and Daugavgriva fortress

Daugavgriva offers a wonderful combination of beauty of nature intertwined with industrial and military heritage. Valentins Pikulis Nature Trail allows to explore various landscapes of seaside nature – meadow, forest and dunes where lovely birch trees grow along with reed jungle, pine trees and grasses, but land and water play “hide and seek” depending on the season.

MILITARY UNDERGROUND SECRETS AND THE SEA

This hiking tour brings you to Mangalsala, a neighborhood of Riga that is known for its industrial vibe, romantic breakwater and wonderful opportunity to observe ships passing by. Screams of seagulls, lonely fishermen standing on the breakwater, powerful sea wind and a bright lighthouse – these are the most common associations with Mangalsala.

Hiking Adventure in Gauja National Park

The Gauja National Park guarantees the most scenic views in Latvia where the valley of the Gauja River curls between hills as far as the eye can see. The surroundings are rich with sandstone rocks, cliffs and outcrops, they will undoubtedly surprise you with their magnificence and beauty. You will start your adventures in the capital city Riga and continue to smaller towns and villages, for example, papermill village Ligatne that still looks almost the same as in the 19th century. You will visit Cesis, the third oldest town in Latvia, that is often called Latvia’s medieval gemstone. What is waiting for you on the hikes? Valdis organized an absolutely wonderful 10 day trip to Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania trip for my sister, a friend, and myself. He arranged all details including our private chofer and tour guide up the last detail. He went far and beyond when he knew I had an accident in Estonia. We met him Latvia and he make us feel welcome. He recommended the most amazing restaurants for us and he took care of my doctor needs where he was the interpreter. In every country we had the best guys one can possibly ask for. All hotels were walking distance from city centre. Thank you Valdis we will always remembered this trip!!!!

Valdis did amazing job to organize us a 15 day, 14 night self drive adventure trip to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Thanks to his valuable advise before and immaculate documentation with names of the locations, guides etc we had a magical experience. We hiked, biked, walked, beached and off course drive all over in all 3 beautiful countries. We felt very safe. Everyone we met were very friendly. The car was delivered to our first hotel in Tallinn and picked up from last hotel in Vilnius. They were professional and kind people. These are the only places on earth where eastern and western architecture can now meet in harmony. The architecture tells a social history translated into excellent English on this tour! The hotels were clean, comfortable, and safe. The food was outstanding as well, I only wish I had more time!
