DAY 1. ARRIVAL IN RIGA

Welcome to Riga! Pick up your rental car at the Riga airport and check into the hotel.

DAY 2. DISCOVER RIGA

Founded in 1201 by the German bishop Albert, Riga is the largest of three Baltic capitals, and boasts a real kaleidoscope of architectural styles. Take a guided walking tour to see the Art Nouveau most famous buildings on the streets of Alberta and Elizabeth, as well as the Old Town with Riga’s Castle and the Three Brothers houses, oldest dwellings in the city.

Make a visit to the Riga Central Market, one of the largest covered markets in Europe. Taste smoked meat, pickled vegetables, Latvian bread, seasonal treats, and more. The market opened in 1930, and it consists of five former Zeppelin airship hangars.

Meals included: Breakfast

DAY 3. ANCIENT TRADITIONS | RIGA – GARKALNE (DRIVE ~25 KM)

In the morning, visit the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum. During a guided tour you will learn about Latvian farmer’s life. You will have a degustation of local goods like cottage cheese, homemade bread and honey.

The museum is located in a lovely pine-tree forest next to the Juglas Lake. A meditative musical experience is waiting for you – ancient sounds of Latvian traditional string instrument “kokle”. Latvians have a saying that “kokle” is given to them by God. Relax and enjoy the ethno-music concert!

In the evening, relax in a cozy guesthouse with an access to a sauna. Enjoy the tranquility brought by Latvian forest.

Meals included: Breakfast

DAY 4. LATVIA’S SEASIDE | GARKALNE – JURMALA (DRIVE ~55 KM)

Nearby Riga, the Latvia’s most famous resort town Jurmala stretches 30 km along the seaside. Take a break from the city on the sandy Jurmala beach. Enjoy a peaceful walk along the pine forest dunes without any rush. Do a self-guided bike tour and explore Jurmala. In the mid-19th-century holiday makers began escaping the city to relax in Jurmala, and it developed as a resort, often called the ‘’Northern Riviera”. You will cycle along a pine-covered dune, see the expressive wooden architecture, modern villas, and endless sandy beaches.  Stop for a swim at one of the eleven established swimming places.

Meals included: Breakfast

DAY 5. KEMERI NATIONAL PARK | JURMALA – KEMERI – KALNMUIZA (DRIVE ~80 KM)

Drive from the splendor of Jurmala to the former resort of Kemeri to discover the Kemeri National Park on a self-guided tour. The Kemeri town was one of the most popular resorts in the whole Soviet Union, and has remained its charm also nowadays. Kemeri is known for its sulfur water springs and large bog territories. Hike a 5 km wooden board trail that will lead you through the bog and to the viewing tower where you will see an impressive landscape. After, you drive to Kalnmuizas manor that lies on the rolling hill of Abava River valley.

Meals included: Breakfast

DAY 6. MOST ROMANTIC TOWN IN LATVIA | KALNMUIZA – KULDIGA  (DRIVE ~55 KM)

Kuldiga is an architectural gem! Join a guided walking tour to see the romantic blend of Kuldiga’s architecture, small winding streets and channels. The heart of the town is the Venta River and the Ventas Rumba, the widest waterfall in Europe. Discover this charming place at a slow pace. Free time in the afternoon.

Meals included: Breakfast

DAY 7. CITY WITH ITS OWN CHARACTER | KULDIGA – LIEPAJA,  (DRIVE ~90 KM)

Next stop is Liepaja, a vibrant port city with its own character. Catch the wind on a guided walking tour, as it is known as a city “where the wind is born”. Liepaja has an artistic soul and is known for its rock-musicians. There is even an alley of fame where many famous Latvian bands and musicians have placed their hand prints.

Meals included: Breakfast

DAY 8. ALONG THE AMBER WAY | LIEPAJA – KLAIPEDA – NIDA (DRIVE ~150 KM)

In the morning, continue to Klaipeda. Join the guided walking tour in the port city. It begins in Klaipeda’s Old Town, known for its old cobblestone streets lined with medieval guild houses. You will visit such landmarks as the Theatre Square and the Ann from Tharau Fountain, a sculpture of a muse of the famous German poet Simon Dach who was born in Klaipeda.

Afterwards, take a ferry to the Curonian Spit, a long, thin sand spit that runs 100 km between the Baltic Sea and the Curonian Lagoon. On this narrow strip of land you can find sleepy fishing villages, isolated pine forests, and endless sand dunes.

Meals included: Breakfast

DAY 9. THE CURONIAN SPIT

In the morning you will do a self-guided bike tour from Nida to Joudkrante and back. On this route you will see several dunes and visit the Hill of Witches, located at the lagoon-side village of Juodkrante. Despite the spooky name, this landmark is actually a collection of wooden sculptures atop a forested sand dune. There are over 80 sculptures made by local artists that depict themes of paganism and Lithuanian folklore.  After that, you will return back to Nida to stroll around the town, enjoy local fish restaurants, and try different kinds of smoked fishes.

You will also visit Kaunas Castle, a gothic fortress built on a hill overlooking the Nemunas River, dating back to the middle of the 14th century.

Meals included: Breakfast

DAY 11. THE ISLAND CASTLE | KAUNAS – TRAKAI – VILNIUS (DRIVE ~115 KM)

Moreover, its mausoleum is the final resting place for some notable figures throughout the history, including grand dukes of Lithuania and even King Alexander of Poland.

On the tour you will see the Gediminas Tower, the 15th-century St. Anne’s Church, Vilnius University, the oldest university in the Baltics, the Gate of Dawn, and the city’s medieval defensive fortification, built around a chapel that remains a major catholic pilgrimage site in Lithuania.  Free time in the evening.

Absolutely brilliant day out with Valdis, we didn’t stop talking from the moment he picked me up. He was knowledgeable... about the area, answered all my questions about Latvia and was just delightful to be with. The area of the hike was stunning, we got some good spots for views and pictures, the weather was beautiful and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend the day. The hike isn’t difficult, plenty of ups and downs and with a decent level of fitness anyone can do this hike.read more

I love the atmosphere in the group and the offered trails. They show a part of the countryside that is still not yet... well know but definitely worth seeing. With woods that look like the one from a fairy story book and really good company it's definitely a suggested tou experience for the lovers of outdoors activities..The guide is super available and offer explanations and curiosity. Particularly useful is the description of how to reach the starting point with public transport (even with the specific schedule time). So I definitely recommend it 😉read more

I am very grateful to Valdis for leading our hike through the Gauja National Park near Sigulda. It was the perfect... combination of the city sightseeing and enjoying nature. Valdis made stops at the most remarkable objects both in the city and in nature and told the most important things, which were neither too much nor too little. He really took good care of the group. Thank you for this day! Highly recommended!read more

We have just spent 9 days travelling through the Baltic countries with Valdis as our guide. Although the itinerary and accommodation had been pre-arranged Valdis supported our trip brilliantly, bringing to life the individual countries with city walking tours, nature trails and visits to other sites. He is great fun, extremely knowledgable and became an integral part of our small group. His contribution to our holiday played a key part in making it a great and enjoyable experience (and he recommends good places to eat!)

If you are looking to go to the Baltic's on an active vacation, make sure to check out Baltic Nature Travel as your travel advisor. We recently finished a 10-day self-driving tour of the Baltic's and wanted to have an active trip whilst not missing out on all the cultural highlights of the region. Valdis, the owner of Baltic Nature Travel was very responsive and organized a trip that included kayaking, long distance bicycle riding, hiking in different forests, cooking activities, cultural highlights, hot-air balloon riding, etc-- all in a matter of 10 days and customized the trip to our liking. We were very satisfied with his responsiveness to our needs and his ability to stay ahead and plan various activities appropriately. Just to give you one example of Valdis's ability to think ahead: in one of the hotels, they have very limited parking. On his own initiative, Valdis made a to call to the hotel and reserved a parking spot for us for the one night that we were going to stay at that hotel. It helped out a lot, as we had to leave very early in the morning. There are other numerous examples where he was available to answer questions and help us as necessary, both before and during the trip. He is an excellent guide, calm and collected and his team of guides around the region were quite knowledgeable and fluent. The accommodation for the trip were quite good and and they can be easily adjusted based on your budget. I highly recommend his touring company for your Baltic travel experience and would like to add that as a person he's very likable and easy-going.

A perfect series of daily hiking tours and town walkarounds. I especially was amused by the jungle-like forests and friendly conversations along the way. Everything was perfectly planned and organized, I definitely recommend, worth thousand-times more than simply visiting cities in a rush.

I enjoyed the hiking tour in the Beberbeķi-Skulte regions of Riga. The route was mainly through the forest, so this is a great opportunity to get away from the city bustle and daily routine and to spend a few hours in nature. The tour guide Valdis is very friendly and he has a lot to tell about the area. I am looking forward to the next tour and recommend joining it.
