Program
DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN RIGA & TRANSFER TO LIGATNE
Arrive in Riga and start your winter adventure in Latvia! Transfer from the airport to Ligatne and check in the hotel.
Overnight in Ligatne at boutique hotel Zeit or similar.
DAY 2: DICOVER LIGATNE AND LIGATNE NATURE TRAILS
In the morning you will visit a paper-mill village Ligatne that still looks almost the same as in the 19th century. During the walking tour around this lovely village, you will learn about the paper industry and life in the paper-mill village.
Resrvation for lunch in the restaurant “Vilhelmine dzirnavas”
In the afternoon you will walk the Ligatne Nature Trails. On the 5 km trail you will have a chance to see various species of wild mammals living in Latvia.

DAY 3: HILLY HIKE AND CURVES OF THE SIGULDA BOBLEIGHT TRACK
In the morning, drive to the heart of the Gauja National Park and Sigulda town, also known as the Little Switzerland of Latvia. In Sigulda you will visit the bobsleigh track and go for a soft-bob ride. On the ride you will slide down 16 turns and over 1200m. This activity promises to deliver an adrenaline-fuelled experience that will last long in the memory.
After, enjoy a 17 km hike up and down the hills in the Gauja National Park. This hike guarantees one of the most scenic views in Latvia where the valley of the Gauja River curls between hills as far as the eye can see! You will be able to enjoy not only the beauty of nature, but also take a look at the Krimulda Manor and Sigulda Medieval Castle! On the way stop for lunch in a designated fire place and have a soup cooked on open fire.

DAY 4: SNOWSHOEING IN SUDA SWAMP
Today you will reach places that are hidden from the eyes of others and enjoy true adventures, while going for a hike in Suda Swamp wearing snow shoes. It will be a great physical activity and the possibility to improve your knowledge in geography, geology, history and biology, as well as to discover many new things by using your senses and feelings.
Reservation for dinner in the exclusive restaurant Pavāru māja. The restaurant is using seasonal and pure farm-grown and wild products, so you can enjoy an unforgettable flavour adventure.

DAY 5: DOG SLEDDING
The Dog Sledding tour will take you on an unusual adventure along Amata River in the vicinity of the Zvārte Rock. You will develop cooperation skills with the sleddogs and enjoy the ride, where the genuine views of Amata River will surprise you. The huskies are very loving and gentle dogs and you are going to have an opportunity to get to know this special breed.

DAY 6: SNOWMOBILE SAFARI
The Snowmobile Safari goes through a spectacular forest which borders the Gauja National Park. The surrounding rolling hills will guarantee adventures during the ride. Your private instructor will lead you through the snow filled forest at a pace that is most suitable for you, offering a fully enjoyable snowmobile experience for both, first timers and experienced drivers.

DAY 7: CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING IN CESIS
In the morning transfer to Cesis. It is the third oldest town in Latvia, and is often called for a medieval gemstone. On a walking tour explore its lovely streets and charming ruins of the Cesis Medieval Castle.
Resrvation for lunch in the restaurant H.E. Vanadzins.
After the lunch, transfer to Ski and biathlon centre “Cesis”. Go cross-country skiing on the tracks that are located in a picturesque coniferous forest on an elevated terrain with scenic trails. It is a popular place for national and international ski and biathlon competitions. There is a 1000m long track with artificial snow and a 2500m long track covered with natural snow, as well as the tracks are illuminated during the dark hours of the day.

DAY 8: SECRET SOVIET BUNKER
In the morning make a visit to the Gauja National park’s most hidden jewel Ligatne Secret Soviet bunker. Visit the 9 m underground bunker that was built for the political and state authority elite of 1980-ties.

How to dress
In winter, temperatures often drop well below zero degrees Celsius. Please, dress accordingly to the weather forecast! Due to very changeable weather, layering is the key to enjoying the tour. Any warm and comfortable shoes are good enough for this tour.

Our guide Valdis Ceics was brilliant – sharing his local knowledge and fun facts, telling stories about the history of the Baltic States and how it affected the people. Not only did Valdis speak good English he also had to speak German. In fact on one occasion Valdis was only going to do the german tour, so several of us “jumped ship” and joined him.

Right from planning my trip through completion, Baltic Nature Tours team was a pleasure to work with. Ieva was always very responsive to my queries. Valdis was our tour guide and he was very good! He was very accomodating of the group’s preferences and when weather was dicey, he quickly helped pivot to alternatives. He had very good recommendations for things to do in free time as well as restaurant to try. The tours he led were very infortmative and always had a quirky fun edge. Certainly made my Baltics experience very memorable. I had a great experience and would certainly recommend them!

My wife and I had a wonderful time visiting Lithuania with the help of our guide Grazina. She was very knowledgeable about the places we visited, several of which were ‘off the beaten path’. Also, our local specialist Ieva arranged local guides for other places we visited such as the Open Air Museum of Lithuania, my grandfather’s village Zemaiciu Naumeistas, and the city of Kleipeda.

My cousin and I had a great experience in Lithuania! Our tour guide Minda was fantastic and made the trip a special experience for us. We called him our Guardian Angel. As we drove or walked he gave us such great historical and cultural information just as we wanted. He felt like a friend or relative and was so comfortable to spend time with. We highly recommend him.
Leva did a great job helping us with our itinerary. I told her some places we wanted to go and the types of experiences we were looking for and she organized it perfectly for us. When I asked for some changes or soecial requirements like air conditioning she came through. Our only disappointment was not finding Kugelis! We found a dish that was very close though and enjoyed all of our meals. I will recommend Leva and Kimkimtravel to my fellow travelers!
